As a restaurant that usually feeds families in need and the homeless at Thanksgiving for free, when Covid hit we could no longer help as we had done previous years.
I still wanted to give back to the community, so I decided to take the food on the road with the food trucks. I started taking food during Covid to feed health care workers and first responders. This gave me such gratitude that in some way I was contributing to help battle the pandemic.
When restaurants reopened, we were able to then resume feeding anyone who needed a meal on Thanksgiving in the restaurant, but what about those who were unable to get to the restaurant, or couldn’t afford to drive to the restaurant due to lack of transportation on Thanksgiving? I decided to continue giving back to the community and started preparing meals on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving and deliver it to local senior citizens and the local hospitals. I teamed up with the local police to help distribute to everyone who needed a meal.
The next year my restaurant staff and I prepared 400 meals and my father and mother-in-law helped distribute along with some of the neighborhood kids that used it as a community project. This has continued now to include my wife, kids and the in-laws.
This made my heart so warm and happy that it has now extended to the Christmas season where my family dresses up as Santa and his helpers and anyone can come to the restaurant for hot chocolate, Christmas cookies and a visit with Santa along with a toy.
I feel such a sense of happiness helping others out in times of need and making people happy through my passion of food. My hope is to inspire the younger generation to give back to the community that has been giving to them throughout the years. This world can use all the kindness it can get.
