Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about Be The People and our Mission.

What is Be The People?

Every day, millions of Americans contribute their time, skills, and support to do the hard work of improving their communities…and the country. Be The People is a celebration of the American Spirit and a call to action for all Americans. We’re making a 10-year commitment to lift up the movement that is already happening in communities across the country but not breaking through the noise. Be The People is built to help everyday Americans do what they’re already inspired to do—help each other succeed. And to put the spotlight on people who help make our communities better, one step at a time.

Who is behind Be The People?

Be The People is led by a coalition of organizations working in communities across the United States—nonprofit groups and philanthropies like Realize the Dream, the MacArthur Foundation, More Perfect, Giving Tuesday, Stand Together, and Goodwill—and individuals who are committed to helping make things better like Jon Batiste, Brian Grazer, Martin Luther King III, Bishop TD Jakes, Emma Bloomberg, Tim Shriver, and others. Our leadership council represents a wide range of Americans from all walks of life.

Who is this for?

Be The People is for everyone, and that’s the point. We showcase that all Americans have something to contribute. We’re here to encourage positive action in our communities and to lift up the work that’s already being done. That’s why we hope you’ll share your Story and inspire others to make a difference!

Can I update my Story submission after it gets published?

While editing after publication isn’t recommended or officially supported, we recognize the need to correct a Story for a variety of reasons. If this is the case, please Contact Us with a link to your Story and we’ll help you out as best we can (this may require your story going offline temporarily while updates are made).

How do I share my Story with others?

The easiest way to share your story is to share the Story’s unique URL. You can copy the address from your browser, and there’s a share button on every Story page. Also, when a Story submission is approved, you’ll be emailed the public link.

How do I get in touch with someone whose story inspired me?

Please Contact Us with the link of the story that inspired you, and the name of the person in the story. While not everyone is open to being contacted, many are, and we’ll pass along your request.
