I truly believe nothing changes if we do nothing. During the pandemic, I felt helpless as to what I could do to support my struggling community. When bagel waste came into my purview, I realized it could be part of a solution, a food resource for those experiencing food insecurity during an unprecedented time. And as I explored it further, I was able to turn that personal helplessness into hopefulness by feeding neighbors in need in my little corner of the world.

The intertwined causes Bagel Rescue addresses – food waste, food insecurity, and food justice – will not be solved with bagels alone. However, getting involved in this space locally and expanding our rescue and delivery model to other cities and states, I know that, combined with other resources, we can collectively make a big difference. It simply takes all of us doing our part. Turning surplus into sustenance through community activation is my way of making the world a better place.
