I started a volunteer group called Happy Harvesters Helpers that helps local homeowners harvest their overgrown fruit trees in order to donate fresh produce to local food banks, residents, and anyone else in need. I was originally inspired to pick and donate produce when I saw tons of overgrown fruit trees on my drive home from working at a local food bank. The food bank was not always able to fully provide for those in need, so I thought it would be wonderful if I could organize a way to get local homeowners' extra produce to those in need. Ultimately, this is a win-win for everyone involved. The homeowners are relieved of the burden of having to maintain their produce (especially the elderly), the pickers get to be involved in something positive for the community, and those suffering from hunger get to enjoy fresh produce.
