I work in a nonprofit to honor my mother's legacy of helping others

Uplift The People
My mom, while dealing with her own medical issues, adopted my three brothers. All were born addicted to substances, including Charlie, who was born with 95% brain damage and a range of medical issues. Ensuring they had a warm and loving home to grow up in was her legacy. Charlie died on his 13th birthday, and my mom died just a few years ago. This radically changed my perspective on life and led me to change careers, where I now work in a nonprofit, Emily’s Hope. We are working to prevent substance use disorder, something that I am so passionate about because of the work she did. It’s what being an American means – looking out for those less fortunate than us. Despite her own challenges, she never thought about herself but selflessly helped others. I am hoping to continue her legacy by helping others
