Loss is a part of life;

Uplift The People
My first job post-undergrad I worked with McKinney-Vento children and families experiencing a housing crisis/homelessness. A young lady I worked with lost her mother in a tragic car accident. Frustrated that her school counselor wasn't seeing her for grief support, I googled grief counseling services in my community and found KinderMourn. Within the week, I called KinderMourn and set up a tour! I didn't think I would be a grief counselor, but I can’t imagine doing anything else professionally. I am forever grateful that this is the path that found me. The work we do at KinderMourn and our families' loved ones are so special. A mantra we often share with our KinderMourn families and community is you matter, your loved one matters, your grief matters.

I continue doing this work in honor of my loved ones who have died, our KinderMourn families, and our amazing team who love and support them.

After my Mom died in 2019, I was a grieving child. At thirty-one, her death rocked my world, and the world of my little sister, Tina, who was twenty-three at the time. My Dad lost his best friend and wife. My Mammaw lost her only baby girl, and four brothers lost their sister. She left behind so many other friends and family members who, to this day, miss her presence greatly. After losing my Mom, I had a different understanding and appreciation for the pain my clients felt who had also lost a parent.

In my opinion, this is what it's all about, what the world needs more of. People helping people. Doing the right thing because we should, not for likes on social media, not for recognition, not because someone is watching. Doing the right thing because it's the right thing. Be kind, always. Love each other. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
