I empower other black autistic women like myself to be proud of who they are

Uplift The People
My name is Ayanna and I proudly identify as a Black autistic woman, an artist, illustrator, author, and advocate for those often overlooked—especially Black autistic girls like the little girl I once was.

Through my art and storytelling, I give voice to the unheard, color to the unseen, and power to the misunderstood. My life's work is not just about me—it's about making sure no one grows up thinking they are broken simply because they are different.

I use my gifts—especially art and words—to inspire, affirm, and educate. I’ve illustrated over 30 children’s books, many of which center characters who are autistic, disabled, or visibly different—because representation isn’t optional; it’s vital.

I created the character in "I'm Autistic and I'm Phenomenal" so that young Black autistic girls could see themselves celebrated in a world that too often ignores them. My coloring books feature children with vitiligo, wheelchairs, hearing aids, and curly crowns—each page a love letter to children who deserve to feel worthy, whole, and wonderful just as they are.

Beyond books, I speak out about the lack of early autism diagnoses in Black communities, the systemic biases in healthcare and education, and the need for better inclusion. I share openly about my own journey, including living with five autoimmune disorders and surviving over 300 seizures. I show others that you can live with pain and still create beauty.

I am inspired first by the child I was—the quiet, creative girl who didn’t yet know she was autistic, who felt things too deeply, spoke too softly, and often felt out of place. I fight for her every day.

Giving back gives me purpose. When I was finally diagnosed as autistic, everything in my life made more sense. I wasn’t broken—I was phenomenally neurodivergent. Creating space for others has created space for me.
Giving back is not charity—it’s community, and it’s the most powerful thing I’ve ever known.
