In our work as outdoor educators, we’ve come to realize that not everyone has access to the beautiful outdoor spaces we enjoy and work in. So much of the problem is that access to these places is not always easy, and some members of our community don’t have the privilege of taking out a paddleboard or hopping on a boat. And we aim to change that by providing access to the youngest members of our community, and teaching them how to appreciate these special spaces.

In our roles at Coastal Expeditions, we’ve worked to create accessible after-school programs, internships, and field trips that bring students from all over the Lowcountry to our Shem Creek campus. Thanks to some of our creative initiatives, we are proud to see more and more students inspired by the natural beauty of this special place.
