From Argentina to LA: Finding My Purpose in Protecting the Ocean I Love

Uplift The People
My name is Eugenia Armacora, and I’m originally from Argentina. I’ve loved the ocean for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a family of swimmers, so being in the water has always felt like home.

When I started surfing, I began noticing how much plastic was gathering on the reefs. It was heartbreaking, and it pushed me to join dive cleanups. After moving to Los Angeles, I met friends involved with the Surfrider Foundation, and I immediately felt connected to the work they were doing on the beaches. I started volunteering in 2018, and six years later I was lucky enough to step into a full-time role. It truly feels like the job of my life.

Working with Surfrider has changed me. I’ve learned so much about the issues facing our coastline, and I’ve seen how education can shift someone’s relationship with the ocean.
