My name is Michaele Palmer and I'm a volunteer at the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri.
Since I'd worked in education for 36 years, I had always heard about the Food Bank just through different outreach programs and ways they provide for families. So when we moved to Columbia, we didn't know anyone and figured the Food Bank would be a good place to meet people of our age group, which it absolutely has been.
And on top of that, people are having an especially hard time right now receiving food and getting the help they need, which is what makes the Food Bank so important, along with the volunteer programs.
I think it's also good to set an example for the younger generation, as they see us at the age we are, continuing to help others.
