As an Empath and a Mindset Coach, I help shift and guide others every day of my life. In 2014 I hosted a "Tie One On" Charity event for Women in Domestic Violence Centers as well as the Homeless. I have had highs and lows in my life and I tell you what, you never forget those lows. I am a 40 year Thriver from Domestic Violence. I have also been near homeless in a few chapters of my life.
A stranger from Facebook had heard that I was all about paying it forward and helping others out. His name was Steve Clark. His wife was dying of cancer. During her last year of life, Shirley Clark, (Steve's wife) started saving Fleece fabric. Shirley loved to sew and do crafts. She frequently purchased fleece fabric that was on sale and filled two huge rooms and part of the garage with it. Steve never said a word. He thought whatever makes Shirley happy in her last year of life, he was going to leave her be.
Steve contacted me when Shirley passed away. He said: "Mary, I hear you are the one I am supposed to give all this fleece fabric to." I had no idea what I was signing up for. I knew I was very good at networking and gathering women together. Steve dropped off 2 huge truck loads of fleece and put them in my garage. It was over 150 fleece blankets, so you can imagine how much fleece was in my garage.
I put together a catchy name for the event: "Let's Tie One On" Charity event. I said all the blankets will be donated to the "Corner Stone Domestic Violence Center" in Bloomington Minnesota. I also said we would give half of the blankets to MaryJo Copeland Homeless Shelter in Minnesota. I served wine and cheese and apps and provided all the blankets and scissors to the volunteers. I had to break the event up into 3 days. I had over 15 volunteers in the 3 days. It was a lot of work but worth every ounce of our energy.
After we go through our life lessons and overcome adversity, there is always an opportunity to pay it forward and give back!
