We have a local donation program here at Working Bikes where we match up folks who really need bikes for primary transportation services. We work with case workers and social service agencies to get us those folks. Our volunteers fix up the bikes for our local program.
My mom always instilled community in me and caring for others around me, and just ensuring that I’m the best person I can be. I’ve always wanted to preserve the world we were given and I would say that has mainly inspired me to live as good as I can, and where my skills allow me to.
We’re diverting bikes from a traditional waste stream of the landfill or scrapyards into the hands of people who can use them. Even if the bike can’t be fixed or refurbished, we’re tearing off all the usable pieces off them and recycling the metal.
Contributing to my community has always been a part of my identity. I grew up in the Kansas City area and when our family was going through a really hard time, our community surrounded us and helped us. Whether that was taking us to school or soccer practice, my life has always been surrounded and uplifted by community.
