Joining Habitat & Becoming a Leader

Supply The People
I joined Habitat for Humanity at Rochester Institute of Technology my freshman year hoping to meet people, and it quickly became one of the most meaningful parts of my college experience. What started with me stepping up as social media manager to grow involvement soon turned into something bigger. I watched my roommate discover a passion for the trades after coming on a build, I helped students on campus learn what Habitat is really about, and I encouraged friends to donate blood and plasma alongside me. The heart of it all has been the retired tradesmen who show up every weekend with coffee and donuts, patiently teaching us how to build homes while showing us what it means to give back with kindness and humility. For me, Habitat has always been about more than building houses. It is about community, growth, and carrying forward the generosity I have witnessed.
  • Every small task connects to something bigger: each nail, board, and steady hand brings us closer to a home for a single mom and her two kids
  • Outreach is huge for our club; these tabling events are so important, even if it’s just spread to a few students
  • I used to donate blood monthly to the Red Cross, however I now do plasma as I’ve realized the compatibility of my blood type is limited
  • The most important people are retired tradesmen, who now want to focus on giving back to families in their community
