Shane Macklin has a heart for greyhounds

Care For The People
I didn't really think about greyhounds as a pet until a vet's office mentioned the possibility. I went to check out a greyhound farm and was immediately hooked! Watching these greyhounds being released one by one was like watching magic. Their speed and grace were just mesmerizing. I was hoping that one of them would come home with me that day and soon I had my answer when one of them came up to me and doinked me on the forehead. I had been chosen.

Over the years, I’ve had about 5 greyhounds. They’re such unique dogs. They’re raised in kennels at the racetracks, and when you adopt them, they’re like full-grown puppies. It takes some work to help them understand how to live in a house. I had to teach them about stairs and glass, but they’re smart dogs and they learn quickly.

I don’t think I’m saving the world by adopting greyhounds, but I’m giving them the best life I can. Every dog deserves a home, and greyhounds are no exception. I love to encourage people to consider adopting a greyhound as an option. Most people don’t even know where to start with adopting a greyhound because they often aren’t found in shelters. If you’re interested in adopting a greyhound, I recommend reaching out to Greyhound Pets of America or search for a local greyhound adoption agency. They can help find the perfect greyhound for you.
