My grandma Samella never turned away anyone who needed a meal; When I opened my restaurant, I knew I’d carry that forward

Enlighten The People
I grew up in South Memphis watching my grandma Samella feed anyone who came through. She didn’t ask questions. If you were hungry, you ate. That was her way.

When I opened Jim & Samella’s House, I wanted to carry that same spirit forward. We serve her recipes the way she made them - from scratch, with lots of heart. We seat people at long tables on purpose, because strangers talk to each other when they sit that close. And most of the time, they leave as friends.

People around here know they won’t be turned away. If someone’s going through a hard time, they can still get a plate. On Sundays, we feed as many people as we can. That’s the legacy I’m trying to honor - real community, real food, and never forgetting where you came from.
