My name is Hong Liu-Seifert and I currently work at Eli Lilly as a biostatician. If I told my 15 year old where I am today, she would not believe me. I grew up in Taiyuan, China, a rural industrial city where opportunities felt limited and the idea of building a career in science seemed far out of reach. I dedicated myself to my studies, knowing that if I worked hard enough, I would have the chance to pursue a higher education and create a life filled with opportunities that once felt unattainable. That commitment eventually carried me across continents, into advanced training, and ultimately into a career where I use statistics to drive meaningful progress in healthcare and make a tangible difference in patients’ lives. My time working at Eli Lilly has given me a newfound perspective on the power of biostatistics in transforming medical research and patient care. This role has let me see the world through a lens where every number reflects a person whose life might be changed or saved because of the work we do. Being a biostatistician at Eli Lilly is not just a profession—it is a daily opportunity to contribute to innovations that bring hope and better health to millions, reaffirming my belief that perseverance and dedication can truly make the world a better place.
