I contribute by helping people who are blind or experiencing sight loss learn the skills and confidence they need to thrive. Through my work with A Future in Sight, I provide education in daily living tasks, orientation and mobility, tech training, counseling, and community programs. I also speak at events, visit community centers, and meet with educators and families to connect people with the resources and solutions they need.
I’m inspired by the help I received in my own journey of losing my sight. The support that allowed me to rebuild my life motivates me to pass that same impact forward. I’m also inspired by the idea that communities can come together, even in divisive times, to support one another and work toward shared goals.
I’m trying to close the gaps that blind and visually impaired people experience—gaps in skills, confidence, access, and community support. More broadly, I’m addressing the shortfall left when systems don’t fully meet people’s needs. I want to make sure that everyone experiencing sight loss has a pathway not just to cope, but to thrive and pursue their passions.
Helping others gives me a deep sense of meaning and fulfillment. I’ve learned that when I help someone, I feel good—and when I let others help me, they feel good too. Contributing allows me to use my own journey, challenges, and stories to make someone else’s path easier. That sense of shared progress and connection is what drives me.
