Natalie Newell is raising funds to build a museum and Discovery Center for her local park

Organize The People
I contribute by serving as the president of the Friends of Benson Park board, leading fundraising, planning, and community outreach to build a museum and discovery center that honors the park’s history. I help run the gift shop, coordinate efforts to preserve memorabilia, and work to create a space where families can learn, play, and enjoy the park safely.

I’m inspired by my own childhood memories of Benson’s Wild Animal Farm: the magic of the animals, rides, and atmosphere, and by the generations of people who worked there. I’m also motivated by the belief that the park can once again become a treasured destination for families, just as it was decades ago.

I hope to preserve the park’s history while creating a safe, accessible green space and educational experience for today’s families. I’m addressing the need for more community spaces where kids can play, people can relax, and families can enjoy time together without cost, especially at a time when mental health challenges and limited outdoor spaces affect so many communities. I also hope the museum will help support economic growth and attract new families to the town.

I get energy, purpose, and fulfillment from pushing this project forward and seeing how much it can benefit the community. Knowing that the museum and discovery center will be a lasting treasure for future generations keeps me motivated. It feels meaningful to help create something that blends history, education, recreation, and community growth.
