Changing Lives — One Quilt at a Time

Create With The People
Founded in 1978 by a small group of women dedicated to promoting the quilting arts, Truckee Meadows Quilters (TMQ) has grown into a vibrant group of more than 190 members who continue their legacy in our Northern Nevada community.

A cornerstone of TMQ's mission is supporting charitable quilting efforts. Over the past two years, members created and donated more than 1,000 quilts—both child- and adult-sized—to more than 20 local Reno-Sparks charities and service organizations.

We believe that providing a quilt to someone in need is like sending a warm hug—offering both physical and emotional comfort. As past TMQ President Linda Kennedy so perfectly said, “We quilt for love.”

Each year, TMQ also offers the public an opportunity to win a beautiful quilt made by our members. One hundred percent of the funds raised from this drawing are donated to charity. In 2025, TMQ raised and donated $3,000 in support of the Veterans Guest House in Reno.

TMQ members share their artistry through quilting exhibits. In 2024, we were invited to display quilts in the Reno City Hall gallery. In 2024 and 2025, TMQ participated in Quilt Show Reno, showcasing more than 150 member-made quilts. More than 100 quilts were also exhibited at the downtown Washoe County Library in July as part of Artown, Reno’s month-long celebration of arts and culture.

Education is another key element of TMQ's mission. In 2024, a group of members spent a day with University of Nevada, Reno students, teaching sewing and quilting skills at the campus Makerspace. Students from a wide range of disciplines enjoyed a creative, hands-on experience introducing them to the art of quilting in an unexpected and engaging way.

TMQ welcomes quilters of all skill levels. Members have multiple opportunities each month to learn new techniques, share ideas, and—most importantly—to “sewcialize.”

With several exciting events planned for the coming year, Truckee Meadows Quilters is on track to expand its impact even further in 2026.
