I've worked at the Conejo Free Clinic for 9 years assisting in the legal clinic doing intakes and directing clients to the correct attorney. I retired and then I was just enjoying retirement but then I felt like I wasn't utilizing all my skills and assets so I decided to contact the Senior Center, who put me in contact with the Conejo Free Clinic. I handle all the intake calls for legal and take all the necessary information, listen to the people, validate their feelings and then connect them with the right attorney so they get their legal problems and questions answered. The reason why I started volunteering at the Conejo Free Clinic is that I was always in a helping profession, teaching, and I wanted to give back to the community. As a senior person, I noticed that my brain was going a little jelly and I wanted to maintain my abilities, so I started volunteering at the Clinic. Not only did it challenge me and give me opportunities to demonstrate my skillset, it also provided me with collegiality, fun, and helping the community. I'm in awe of all the people who have retired and volunteer here, and that means the community of over 800,000 is being served medically, dentally, and legally.
