I saw a need that few others noticed—the pets of people experiencing homelessness often going hungry and without veterinary care. Having pets my whole life I know the unconditional love they have provided but also the financial burden it has on the less fortunate. So, in 2008, I founded Feeding Pets of the Homeless®. It is the first national nonprofit dedicated exclusively to feeding and providing emergency veterinary care to the pets of people experiencing homelessness. Since establishing the organization, I have led its growth into a nationwide network that has facilitated the distribution of more than 2.5 million pounds of pet food and enabled over 32,000 pets to receive free medical treatment.
The satisfaction of knowing that with my team we are helping so many pets that otherwise would go hungry or face pain.
I was able to bring national attention to the bond between people experiencing homelessness and their companion animals, highlighting both the challenges they face, and the vital support pets provide. Feeding Pets of the Homeless® is headquartered in Carson City, Nevada, and continues to expand its impact across the United States.
