Conservation techniques bring birds back to suburbs

Educate The People
I’m Brett Stolpestad, I’m a landscape restoration specialist and I love gardening, especially with native plants. I designed a native plant garden as a space to educate community members about habitat loss. The garden is designed to attract insects and pollinators, and the trees have been maintained to provide habitat for birds who prey on the insects. Not only are we addressing habitat loss and declining biodiversity, but we did it in a way that invites people in and shows them that conservation can happen in your backyard. It’s really gratifying and fun to work with community members and I’m so lucky that it’s part of my job with the county. I’m continuously inspired by my connection with the communities I serve.
