I want to be a light in other people's darkness, because I hate to see human suffering. So in 2017, I decided to found an organization called Collective Sistahood with a group of 13 other women in my community.
Collective Sistahood is a collection of organizations joining together to serve, to educate, and to promote social welfare. The idea came about one day when a group of us got together; we were sharing about the different programs we were working on. One woman said she wanted to fight human trafficking. Another wanted to help people with diabetes. Another was working with autistic youth. So we had an Aha moment. We said, we need to work together like sisters, and really help one another, so we can all thrive. And that's how Collective Sistahood was born. Today, we work on a number of different programs, including digital literacy for seniors, a mental health circle, an initiative at the local library, wellness programs, and more.
I have a strong faith in God, so before I set out for work each day, I like to light a candle and pray for humanity. I hope that through my work, and the work of Collective Sistahood, we can make things a little lighter for those in need.
