Through Thick and Thin, HOME Is Where the Music Is

Provide For The People
Music and musicians are a huge part of what makes Austin special. As a lifelong music professional, I've been lucky enough to be part of that community for over forty years. Thirteen years ago, when one of our legendary musicians lost her home, many of us stepped in to help her with housing.

HOME—the nonprofit Housing Opportunities for Musicians and Entertainers—was born out of that experience. Since that moment, when a group of us women (all musicians or music professionals) banded together to help Miss Lavelle White, we've helped countless Austin musicians over 55 with their rent and utilities.

As an organization of mostly volunteers, we've created a cushion for musicians who can no longer afford to live in Austin—those same musicians who have helped shape the city through their music.

Of course I do this because I love helping the folks and friends in my community, but it also just makes me feel good, and that's the bottom line.
