I’m Michelle White and I feed people through 5Loaves2Fish—a program that prepares and serves homemade meals with love. Beyond nourishing our guests, I’m honored to serve the broader community. Our volunteers come not only to help others, but to find deeper connections in their own lives. I also raise awareness about the many facets of food insecurity, inspiring volunteers, donors, and the community to engage with compassion and purpose. I don’t believe food insecurity can be fully solved—Jesus said the poor will always be among us. But what I can do is feed as many people as possible. In a time like this, I’m deeply grateful to answer the call to serve.
In 1983, at 17 years old, my dad took me to Washington, D.C. I was deeply impacted by the sight of people experiencing homelessness—it stayed with me for years. Over time, I had meaningful encounters with some of the most wonderful individuals facing homelessness, and I, too, came close to experiencing it myself. Those moments shaped me. What began as compassion grew into a calling to serve others. When COVID hit and I was asked to help feed people, something sparked inside me—a feeling that had been waiting quietly for decades to come alive.
Food is a right, not a privilege—and I’m blessed and grateful for the opportunity to feed others. It’s not just about offering a nourishing meal made with love, but about serving with gratitude, compassion, and warm hugs.
