Buffalo Were Living Off of a Wing and a Prayer Until They Found Firm Footing

Protect The People
Welcome to the 60th Annual Buffalo RoundUp.
Buffalo management and conservation has been an ongoing effort ever since Teddy Roosevelt co-created a protection for them in 1905.

They have been brought back from the brink of extinction, and in places like Custer, South Dakota, managed in a way that funds the state parks.

Neighboring parks under federal jurisdiction donate their excess bison to other parks and tribes. In Custer, the public event is a much larger scale.

Custer State Park is one of the largest state parks in the country, and their bison roundup is a spectacular annual event to behold.
