Dr. Chelsea King: Uniting Environmental and Social Justice at Sacred Heart University

Teach The People
I contribute by connecting environmental care with social justice. As Director of the Laudato Si’ Office at Sacred Heart University, I help our community see that sustainability is not just about the planet—it’s about people. Through campus programs, wellness walks, and partnerships, I aim to inspire reflection and action that honor both human dignity and ecological balance.

I’m inspired by communities who have long practiced stewardship—Indigenous leaders, faith organizers, and young activists who show that justice and care for creation must go hand in hand. I also draw strength from Pope Francis’s Laudato Si’, which calls us to an ecological conversion rooted in compassion.

The problem I want to address is the disconnect between environmental advocacy and equity. True sustainability must include the voices of those most affected by climate and economic injustice.

What I gain from this work is hope and humility. Every collaboration reminds me that change happens through relationship—through people willing to care for each other and our common home. Helping others see that connection is both my calling and my greatest reward.
