In 2020, myself and my husband, Bill, wanted to give back during the pandemic. We discovered an organization named Little Brothers-Friends Of The Elderly-SF (LBFE-SF) that provides social support to isolated and lonely older adults and decided to volunteer to make weekly phone calls to an older adult. I was matched with a man named Billy, and we immediately hit it off. It was the start that summer of a friendship which has been going strong ever since, developed at first via phone calls up to three times a week then over monthly meals at a restaurant somewhere in the city and different events we will attend, often with my husband, Bill, in tow, as he also has served as a volunteer with LBFE.
