The challenges I try to address are centered around single, working parent families navigating financial hardship. My goal is to always provide a safe space for growth with a community of others traveling similar paths, while also achieving long term stability and financial independence for themselves and their children.

I had been selected as a keynote speaker for a group of graduating single mothers. In my speech, I shared the story of a young girl's personal struggles from childhood through adulthood. It was my story, but no one knew that until the very end. It was the first time I had ever opened myself up and shared my story in its entirety. I felt extremely vulnerable and was hesitant to make eye contact for fear of judgment from other professionals. But to my surprise, what I saw instead was a room full of attendees in tears because they had been so moved by what I’d shared. This not only showed me kindness and grace, but taught me how impactful authenticity is. When you allow yourself to be vulnerable, people feel a real connection. Those graduates walked away with a feeling of hope and encouragement to keep moving forward. I keep this at the forefront of my mind every time I sit with a new parent at an intake meeting.

Each parent comes in feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and hopeless, but yet they have found the courage to seek out assistance. Leading by example and modeling values through my own actions are what inspires and builds trust in others.

Being able to extend my hand to someone who is hurting is what I believe humanity is about. If I can help someone else navigate challenges and avoid some mishaps more easily due to my experiences, that brings me joy. My hope is when I leave this world, people will remember me as someone they knew genuinely cared about them. May we always advocate for those in need and do what we can to make the world a kinder and gentler place.
