Clothing That Nourishes Body and Earth

Nourish The People
I’m Saadia, and I create clothing that nourishes both the body and the earth. As an Ayurvedic practitioner, textile artist, and designer, I make sustainable, toxin-free garments from natural fibers like cotton and silk. I make all my dyes myself from Ayurvedic herbs and plant-based pigments, including marigold, goldenrod, turmeric, indigo, and madder root. Each plant and pigment carries healing properties, and the designs are inspired by patterns in nature.

My work responds to the modern fashion industry, which exposes people to toxins and pollutes the environment through synthetic fabrics, chemical dyes, and industrial processes. By using natural fibers and plant-based dyes, I create clothing that supports well-being and ecological balance. I want what we wear to be nourishing, not harmful.
Each piece reflects my connection to nature and my Pakistani and Indian heritage. I bring Ayurvedic knowledge into my work, ensuring each material reflects balance, healing, and mindful intention. For example, goldenrod can support allergies, turmeric has anti-inflammatory benefits, indigo is antimicrobial, and madder root (manjistha) in my “Moon Dress” helps with circulation and menstrual health. After dyeing, I rinse the dresses in Race Brook, a stream near my home in the Berkshires that holds special meaning, and hang them to dry in the open air.

I hold showings where people can see the dresses, try them on, learn about the plants and processes behind each piece, and purchase pieces made with care and intention. These gatherings bring the community together in a way that’s also fun, celebrating clothing as something that can nourish the body and honor nature.

For me, making clothes is a form of care. It transforms getting dressed into a ritual of awareness, creativity, and healing. I love that each piece reflects intention from start to finish, and I hope wearing them encourages people to slow down and notice the care, materials, and story behind what they wear.
