Just a simple pair of shoes can make an impact

Provide For The People
My name is Brad Mayhar, and I'm the public relations manager at the Salvation Army in San Antonio. One of the events that means the most to me is the Shoe-In. Families come in and kids who may have holes in their shoes or pairs that no longer fit walk out with brand new ones. For many, it's the first time they've ever owned something new. Seeing their excitement, even over a shoebox or a fresh pair of socks, reminds me how powerful small acts can be.

I was raised by parents who taught me the Golden Rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. My dad modeled it every day at his job, treating everyone the same no matter who they were. That example stays with me. I know we're all just a paycheck away from struggle, and if I can help give a kid a smile, that's what keeps me doing this work.
