The Need of a Good Night's Sleep Shouldn't Depend on Circumstances

Provide For The People
My name is Bonnie Funk. I am 91 years old and live in a long-term care facility in Madison, South Dakota.

I grew up knitting and crocheting. The blanket I keep in my chair is one that I made. Several years ago my daughter put me on to a pattern for crocheting plastic bags into a sleeping mat.

The process of using the plastic yarn, or "plarn," is three fold. It keeps upwards of 800 plastic bags from ending up in the landfill, it gives someone in need a more comfortable place to sleep, and it gives me something to keep my mind busy.

I was a nurse for a better part of my life, and I've always believed that building up a community is what differentiates just another place you've been through from somewhere you're proud to call home.

Something I think we can all identify with is that a good night’s sleep is a fundamental need.

I hope that what I do on here can continue to make an impact from out there.
