I’m Zach DeBoer. I come from the world of art and punk rock. I have made it my mission to use my knowledge of art and urban design to make my city safer and more livable. I’ve taken on projects all over Sioux Falls. One of my first was adding back-in angled parking to Main Ave. The street was basically a raceway and I petitioned the city to add a bike lane and parking to slow down traffic. They didn’t have the budget but said I could paint it myself, so I did! The new design slowed down traffic. It made the neighborhood feel more welcoming.
This first project inspired me to begin my journey of making Sioux Falls a place where the streets felt safer, friendlier and more connected.
I hope my story inspires people to make their cities more livable and desirable. You don’t need permission to get started making something better. Sometimes it just takes someone to take that first step.
