My name is Romisha. I'm 17 and I'm from Nepal. Moving to Salt Lake was really hard at first. The main difference was the language barrier. I did not know how to speak English. I only knew a couple of words and just trying to communicate with my friends or teachers was really hard. So it was tricky to get the hang of the new culture here in America.
Then, a teacher told me about She Belongs. And as soon as I heard about it, I wanted to join.
She Belongs is a soccer team of half refugee and half non-refugee girls. And we just get together to have fun. At my first practice with She Belongs, I was wearing a jersey that said Messi on it. And when they asked for our name as a joke, I just said my name was Messi. I thought that was going to be a one time thing. But ever since, they've just been calling me Messi.
I used to be kind of shy at first, scared to talk to new people. And She Belongs has really helped me come out of that comfort zone. Meeting my friends here, not only from Utah, but from all around the world, has made me realize that I'm not alone.
