Building Community and Inspiring Environmental Action at UCLA

Organize The People
I’m Rachel, a fourth-year environmental science student at UCLA, and I’m Savannah, a second-year in the same major. Together, we serve as the volunteer directors for the Environmental Student Network (ESN), a club that brings together students who care about sustainability, conservation, and making a difference in our local community.

When we joined ESN, we wanted to create a space where anyone could connect through shared care for the planet. We organize volunteering and restoration events. Our goal is to make environmental action accessible, fun, and community-driven.

For me (Rachel), my passion started in high school through climate activism. It felt natural to continue that journey at UCLA. I’m especially interested in the connection between environmental health and public health. That motivates me to work toward a more equitable and sustainable world.

For me (Savannah), the outdoors has always been a part of my life. I grew up spending time at the beach, so organizing cleanups and seeing our community come together to protect those same spaces feels incredibly meaningful.

What inspires us most are the people around us: friends, roommates, and classmates who come to an event for the first time and leave wanting to do more. Watching others discover their own passion for the environment is the most rewarding part.
