I’m Anne Tubaugh, executive director of Reading Connections, the largest adult and family literacy nonprofit in North Carolina. I lead a team of 20 staff members, but together with our volunteers and partners, we serve hundreds of adults and families each year.
Since 1990, Reading Connections has grown from pairing adults with volunteer tutors to offering programs in English language learning, family literacy, and workforce development. We help adults gain skills to improve their lives and support their children’s learning.
Literacy is more than reading—it impacts poverty, housing, health, and employment. I’m inspired every day by the courage of learners, the dedication of volunteers, and the generosity of our partners and funders. Giving back has always been part of who I am, and through this work, we create real opportunities and pathways for people to thrive.
