On Tribal Lands, one woman answers the call to find missing loved ones

Rescue The People
Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives is the grassroots movement raising awareness and addressing the lack of response when a Native person goes missing or is murdered. Due to an overwhelming need for help finding lost relatives on Navajo Nation, I began 4 Corners K-9 Search and Rescue, a non-profit dedicated to finding lost and missing persons on tribal lands. Growing up, the daughter of two Navajo Nation police officers, I felt a strong connection to helping those in need. After my German Shepherd, Trigger, impressed his obedience instructor, I enrolled him in search and rescue classes. A year later, Gunny, our Czech Shepherd, joined the team. At first, we worked with New Mexico State Police on searches, but families began reaching out to me for help, so I started volunteering my time to search for missing loved ones. It all comes down to the families, they are what keeps me going.
