Peter Accolla is one of the kindest people I have ever met. Peter owns a company called NuImage Entertainment. Peter himself is a DJ and had been volunteering his time and services once a month to play music during lunch at our local senior center. He saw a "senior" prom on a news one day and came to me with the idea of the two of us putting together a formal prom for senior citizens here in our community, North Reading MA. We saw that, unfortunately, seniors are often a forgotten or neglected population. Additionally, we believe that no one suffered the isolation of COVID more than they did.
This work connects to my personal upbringing and the values passed down to me from both of my parents, but especially from my mom. My mom was one of the most charitable people I've ever known, both in terms of actions and monetary donations (she had so little but always managed to give). I'm a firm believer in the proverb: "to whom much is given, much is expected." That is the basis of how I live my life.
I've learned many things about people in general since we began doing this work, but the one thing that stands out is that there are so many giving people in this world. I've been especially struck by how those who have the least (money, time) tend to be the ones who give the most.
I 100% believe what Peter and I do ties into what it means to be an American. Americans lift each other up and embody an entrepreneurial mindset of looking for solutions to challenges and problems with kindness and compassion. Look at how our country responds to disasters such as the California wildfires and the North Carolina floods. We act immediately, oftentimes without question, to help wherever we can.
