Hello! I’m Deb Klebanoff. The first time I drove down into the valley where The Retreat at Pointer’s Ridge would reside, I couldn’t believe how much of a mess it was. It had been empty for 7 years and the plants had taken over. But I could tell this was a place that needed to be saved.
The site had nine cabins, an a-frame, and various other structures. We didn’t build anything new, we just reimagined what was here. In the early days we relied heavily on volunteers. Big groups of volunteers cleared the brush and cleaned up the buildings.
Projects like these always surprise people and in this case, with this space, it has been molded into something very special and different than I imagined it would become. It’s important to dream. Rebuilding this place was fun. We had many great experiences here and I hope someone will come along and dream of what it will become next.
