My purpose and my passion are just really showing people how they can relate to nature in an approachable and grounding way.
I grew up in Colorado, and the Rocky Mountains were my backdrop for my whole life. I was always passionate about the environment, from starting green clubs at school to inviting citizen scientists to talk to my classmates. In college I really realized what a powerful tool storytelling can be, especially when that storytelling is paired with an action, and that is really something that gives people hope.
Sometimes I feel like what I'm doing is very simple. I think that my talent is really connecting with people, collaborating, and building a coalition of people. People recognizing and celebrating all the wonderful things that they are doing, bringing organizations that are doing amazing stuff like this together. I feel like it's a really homegrown community, and I have people that I know that I can rely on for certain things now, and it's not just a community. I feel like they're my actual neighbors, and I feel like I live in a neighborhood. I think that a superpower I have in my pocket is just making people feel sparkly, hopeful, and joyful. I feel like I just have a contagious joy that I have in my soul, and so why not use that to spark joy for people and planet?
I think that people are really intimidated. Sometimes it's as simple as growing something in your own garden, your own balcony, or your windowsill. And I think that people just get a little intimidated and don't feel like what they're doing matters. But in reality, everything matters, so whether it's planting a seed or advocating for change in your community, or talking to somebody that you love, like a friend or family member, about what's going on on our planet, then that is enough-- and you're doing amazing things already. So just recognizing your potential, and I think that a lot of people don't realize that.
