I have done Pet Therapy for over 17 years. The joy and benefits I have seen it brings people really inspires me. Over 17 years I have seen Pet Therapy evolve so much. Our organization constantly has new requests for visits, including airports during the holidays, schools during finals, events for staff at companies - everyone wants pet therapy.
There have been studies of the benefits it can do, from lowering blood pressure, stress relief, loneliness, pain relief, the list keeps growing. Walking down the halls of the hospital seeing doctors, nurses, patients and family members, it brings a smile to their face. I’ve seen a person in a coma show signs they are aware after putting their hand on my dog- their fingers started to move. The wife burst out in tears that there was hope that their loved one was aware of their surroundings. I have so many inspiring stories I’ve seen in all these years. I never dreamed I’d still be doing this after all this time. It brings me such joy being able to make a difference in someone’s day.
