As the architect of Black Theatre United’s Educational Program, I make a difference by creating opportunities for students who don’t often see themselves represented on Broadway—on or off the stage. Through our Broadway Bound Educational Program, I introduce middle schoolers to the many career paths that exist behind the curtain. From there, they can grow through our RISE Press and Marketing Internship and Designer Expo, gaining the access, exposure, and confidence needed to launch meaningful careers in the theatre industry.
I help address the lack of representation for Black, Asian, and Latino creatives in theatrical jobs. By showing students that Broadway is more than performing—that it includes producing, designing, marketing, and managing—I’m helping them see a place for themselves in this world. Each program we build helps close the opportunity gap and ensures that the next generation of storytellers reflects the diversity of our communities.
Growing up, I didn’t often see leaders in the arts who looked like me. That realization inspired me to become one. I was guided by educators who believed in inclusion and in the transformative power of the arts. Their example continues to drive me to create spaces where young people feel seen, valued, and capable of achieving greatness.
The most meaningful lessons come from watching students discover their voice and purpose. When they realize that they belong in this industry, I gain something priceless—hope. Hope that Broadway’s future will reflect every story, every voice, and every dream.
Lifting others up is a core value that defines who we are as Americans. It means using our gifts to open doors for someone else and recognizing that progress is a shared effort. To me, contributing to my community means creating pathways for others to rise—and knowing that when they do, we all shine a little brighter.
