Dine well, do good – Chef Antwain Lee

Train The People
I am the head chef at a workforce training non-profit that teaches kitchen and life skills. We have the restaurant, Inspiration Kitchen, open like two days a week. And then we have full-service catering. And I also train the participants too.

We help people who have hit hard times but are willing to believe in their self to get out there into the world and try to reach for their dreams. We teach the skill set to where you can be multitasking things. There's a lot of moving parts in the kitchen. It's almost like a choir. Everybody got to play their part. It's not one single person that can run a kitchen by themselves. There's no “I” in the kitchen. It's all about teamwork.

I felt pretty confident when I came in as a participant, because cooking has always been my passion. I needed somewhere to network to show my skill set and everything. And this was a wonderful showcase for me. I came, I did what I had to do, and the people noticed it. And that's why I'm here today. I want to bring somebody else in and pass on that knowledge that I have learned. I like giving back to the people who are in need or who was once sat in the same seat I sat in. As long as we're in America, it's never too late. And at Inspiration, we are here to show you that it's never too late.
