My name is Katie Piehl. I am a resident of Denver and I'm currently a volunteer mentor for the Kramerica Gives program.
I started being a mentor five years ago when I was still a public school teacher. Even though I loved being around elementary school kids each day, I was excited to become a mentor because that meant I could have more "real life" conversations with these students.
For the past four years, I have served as a mentor to Fajer. We meet every other week, participate in group activities together, volunteer in the community together, and have 1:1 conversations. Sometimes our conversations are lighthearted, and other times we discuss life skills and struggles Fajer may be facing.
My time spent with Fajer and her peers has shown me that there is so much good in the world and gives me so much hope for the future.
