I am an Austin local who drives the 40 miles to Sandy Creek every Saturday and Sunday to help the community recover from the July 4th floods, even after everyone else has left. I coordinate a small team to clear rubble, demo houses and recover valuables. Even though we are very different from the residents of Sandy Creek, we share a common goal of rebuilding it together. I have formed bonds with the people there, and we now feel like a community. They have inspired me to grow and do things I thought I couldn't do.
