Wrap the World with Quilts began from a single photograph of children at the Ukrainian border in 2022. They clutched small bags, leaving behind everything, including their father and brother who stayed to defend their country. Our friend Nataliya sent us that photo as she fled Ukraine with her children. The image broke our hearts. We couldn’t change the war or help all refugees, but we were determined to help Nataliya and her children.
We never planned to start a non-profit. We simply wanted these children to have something handmade that said, “I see you. You matter.” We asked ourselves, could a quilt make a difference? When Nataliya wept at the idea that strangers in America would make such a gift, we knew it could.
We called it Wrap the World with Quilts. Our goal was to comfort anyone displaced or distressed. We had no plan, just purpose—and that purpose attracted others. Quilt makers began sending far more quilts than we expected. We added QR codes and messages of hope so recipients could connect with their makers. It wasn’t just about quilts anymore; it was about human connection.
As of October 2025, over 62,000 quilts have been donated across the U.S. and 10 other countries—equaling 78 tons, 35 acres of surface area, one million hours of service, and $35 million in value.
We’ve sent quilts to victims of Hurricane Helen, tornadoes in Nebraska, and fires in Maui, Pacific Palisades, and Altadena. We’ve also sent quilts to families in Michigan affected by the tragic church shooting, as well as to refugees, victims of domestic abuse, families in shelters, foster homes, veterans, and disabled children.
A quilt can keep someone warm, but more powerfully, it carries an invaluable message:
You are seen. You are valued. You are loved. You are not forgotten.
