Teaching is not just what I do - it is who I am

Teach The People
Growing up in Oakland, this community has always been my home, and giving back to it has been my life’s mission. One of the ways I do this is by teaching our kids not just lessons in reading or math, but lessons in life. I help shape their young minds, teaching them how to build growth mindsets while advocating confidently for themselves. Seeing a child gain confidence and realize their potential is a joy that words can hardly capture.

I am equally committed to empowering parents, guiding them in understanding their children’s data so they can advocate effectively and confidently for their children’s needs. I have taken on leadership roles within our school, from organizing our Ruby Bridges Walk for the past three years to serving on the DEI and Cultural Committees. I also represent our staff as the union bargaining representative, and most recently, I stepped up as a board member for our school’s charter renewal. When I see a need, I do my best to fill the gap, always guided by the love I have for this community.

Working with children has been the most transformative experience of my life. It has strengthened my dedication to becoming a fully credentialed educator so I can continue to serve my students and their families with even greater impact. The love and care I pour into my students, their families, and my school reflect the gratitude I feel for all that my community has given me.

At the center of all of this is my own family I am a proud mother to an amazing son whose compassion inspires me daily. The love I pour into him is the same love I pour into my school community, because teaching is not just what I do; it is who I am.
