Kathleen brings joy and whimsy to the library in her work as a fairy house artist for Random Acts of Silliness

Amuse The People
My name is Kathleen McPherson, and I love bringing joy, whimsy, and wonder to the people of my community, especially children.

I have worked with a local nonprofit called Random Acts of Silliness for three years creating fairy houses for their annual Bumblewood Thicket Fairy Village. I find this work to bring me a lot of joy and satisfaction as well. Thousands of people walk the beautiful trails in Bozeman Montana during the last weeks of August enjoying the creativity of over 20 individuals who fashion a wide variety of fairy houses. Children and adults come dressed in their own fairy costumes to discover the enchanted forest. It is a full-on spectacle of magic and wonder as they wander through Bumblewood Thicket. Young and old alike are immersed in this make-believe world that has been brought to life though hours and hours of creation by the various artists.

I have truly treasured my time creating my three fairy houses over the years, and I have discovered that providing these magical moments for my community is so fulfilling. Seeing children light-up as they discover this magical world that has brought to life their fantasy of fairies being real is so meaningful to be a part of. The adults are also very grateful to look at and enjoy the craftmanship and creativity that goes into each and every house. I also love the fact that Bumblewood Thicket is located on a beautiful nature trail that invites the community to get out into nature. I would imagine that some families have never been on a hike in our community, and this event gets them out into nature, enjoying the beauty and wonder that it provides. This is a wonderful way of introducing the amazing access we have in Montana to nature and provides a way for this younger generation to appreciate it.
