I’m Cash Mendenhall, I’m an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a native of Salt Lake City, Utah. These photos are a collection of American landscapes, frozen moments from rivers where I've done fieldwork, where I've assisted in legislating transboundary disputes, where I've felt most myself. Rivers in the West are a public problem, and the ambitiously located human settlements around them are tangled up in their ebb and flow. It's hard to forget that one day, this may all be gone. I've dedicated my scholarship and my service to protecting them. Cities forging a high-tech future, from Phoenix to Vegas to Los Angeles, are constrained by low-tech problems requiring ultramodern solutions. Protecting my community relies on those solutions.
